About

The Climbing Ireland Film Festival, or CLIFF, was founded in 2023 by Aoife Prunty. The first festival took place in March 2024 and was organised as a Trinity Climbing Club event. Since then, interest and participation has grown, with the event developing into an important cultural night for Irish Climbing.

CLIFF 2025 podium

CLIFF was created to give Irish climbers an opportunity to create their own films and videos to showcase their experience of our sport on the big screen, inspired by Reel Rock, and YouTube channels like Mellow, Wedge Climbing, and more.

How does it work?

The Climbing Ireland Film Festival is a competition for short films about Irish climbing. Participants submit their films a month or so before the event, and the top 10 (give or take a few) are selected to be screened on the big night. The films are judged by a select panel of judges, and the top 3 films are awarded prizes!

CLIFF 2024 in The Woolshed Bar in Dublin

2025 saw our attendance jump as we moved our venue to Rascal’s Brewing Company in Dublin. The events growth was also supported by a number of sponsors, who allowed us to offer even better prizes to our filmmakers! For more info on our previous sponsors and how you might get involved click here!
